Owner and President
J Banks Design Group

Designer Joni Vanderslice founded J Banks Design Group in 1986. Since the company’s inception she has served as the Owner and President, growing the company into an internationally recognized design firm. A member of ASID and Who’s Who of Interior Designers, Vanderslice is also NCIDQ certified.

During the past two decades of operation, Vanderslice has established “the J Banks Look”, known for its timeless design and casual elegance. While each completed project is imbued with this quality, each also stands on its own aesthetically. “I feel that each job I do should have a special surprising detail that provokes the wow factor,” says Vanderslice, “something that represents truly original creativity.”

Vanderslice’s reputation for out of the box yet timeless design has enabled her to secure high-end, publicly acclaimed projects throughout the world. These projects challenge both her design abilities as well as her business acumen, as she uncovers new sources for objets d’art and navigates the meandering path of international business. Visiting a multitude of diverse markets keeps Vanderslice’s creativity inspired, providing her with fresh insight for her many endeavors, from interior design projects to her innovative designs for the J Banks Collection for Stanford Furniture, a sophisticated collection of transitional home furnishings.

Immediately after moving to Hilton Head Island, Vanderslice committed herself to the betterment of the island community. A dedicated volunteer with the Hilton Head Boy’s and Girl’s Club and the Hilton Head Chamber of Commerce, Vanderslice was named Woman of the Year in 1996. She is also on the board of the Sea Pines Montessori Academy.

Vanderslice’s ongoing commitment to the quality of life of the communities and people with whom she works is perhaps most evident in the new J Banks head office. The 18,000-square-foot structure is the first LEED-certified building on Hilton Head Island, and only the twelfth in South Carolina.

Vanderslice’s design experience, antiques expertise, relationships with clients and community service are the characteristics that have empowered her to gain the trust and confidence of each of her clients. This trust has cultivated lifelong relationships with her clients and continues to foster the success of J Banks Design Group.
