Designer Tablescape: Lisa Whitley

Over the next few weeks we are asking each of the J Banks Designers to style a tablescape on a round, glass table from our retail store. We have given them the freedom to create anything they want; from a table setting for entertaining to a beautiful design vignette – the sky is the limit!  The end result will show how thoughtful accessories and attention to detail can change the overall ambiance of a room.

Last week we featured Designer, Janet Perry and her Christmas Eve vignette. This week, we are featuring Designer, Lisa Whitley’s elegant creation. Enjoy!

JB: What is your favorite item or items in the vignette/tablescape? Why?

Lisa: My favorite items are the capiz shell placemats.  I love that they have so much variation of color, that they change from orange to red and all colors in between based on what is placed next to it.  This tablescape has a lot of neutral elements, so the rust color gives enough pop to cheer up the table.  I also like that they can be used during the holidays as well as the perfect addition of color for a summertime table.

I really think burlap ribbon and fabric is a great way to add texture to any type of tablescape.  It’s easy to blend into any pieces you are using and adds a layered effect.  For this display,  I used the burlap ribbon with the pinecones at the base of the centerpiece.

JB: Tell us a little bit about your color choices & how you were inspired.

Lisa: Color choices are based on winter holidays.  I love using evergreens, anything green that brings the outdoors in.  I wanted to be sure it wasn’t too rustic so I used the shell placemats, the snowy pine cones and the glass ornaments to bring in some sparkle. I also incorporated a cashmere throw as a table skirt to create a cozier atmosphere.

JBWhat advice can you give for your clients about dressing a table?

Lisa: Use pieces you love. Layer materials and sizes for variation. For example, using vases repeated down the center of long table gives a dramatic impact.  If you vary the heights and sizes of the vases and layer other materials throughout it adds even more interest and personality.

We loved the sophisticated ambiance that Lisa created for her tablescape!

Stay tuned for more tablescapes coming soon!
