From birthdays to barbecues, summer is the season for backyard entertaining. Take outdoor entertaining to the next level and make your event a memorable one. Make your tablescape the talk of the town with these fun ideas that are affordable, accessible and simple!

Step 1: Choose a theme! If the thought of a theme scares you, just pick an overall color palette that you love. This always helps to pull my ideas together and creative juices flowing.

For my table, I wanted to create a setting that reflected bohemian design. “Boho” style has always been inspiring to me, so I wanted to create a tablescape that had modern tribal elements and a vivid color palette.

Instead of using a traditional tablecloth or placemats, I stepped out of the box and used fabric samples to create a table runner. I chose to incorporate an eclectic mix of colors and patterns to achieve my tribal vibe.

My favorite part of designing a table is creating the place cards. With this step, be unconventional! A perfect example are the individual mini potted cacti used at each table setting. These colorful plants all the rage right now, and they tied in perfectly to my theme! As an added surprise for guests, these are inexpensive enough to give as favors at the end of the evening.

Now for the centerpiece, don’t get overwhelmed when choosing one! It shouldn’t steal the show or take away from the other details of the table you worked so hard on. My advice would be to keep it understated and low, so that your guests do not have to talk over them. I created an arrangement of cacti and succulents in a funky ombre pot to add some bright, vivid color!

Think past your table as well. It is important not to forget about accents outside of the actual table. For example, in an effort to create more space on the table, I used a fun pouf as a surface for utensils and a bread basket. This gives the scene an extra component and…who doesn’t like a good pouf?! You can also achieve this component by adding some throw pillows to the chairs.

And finally, accent your yard with soft lighting by incorporating candle lanterns. This adds ambiance and will set the mood for the evening. I chose these copper lanterns that can be purchased through J Banks Retail.
And there you have it…a beautiful setting that your guests will adore and you’ll be proud to show off.
Dine on!
