Vintage Africa Map art designed by joni vanderslice for the j banks collection

Vintage Africa Map art

When a touch of whimsy is desired, our Vintage Africa Map series is a smart choice. Drawn fancifully though smartly, the giclée prints tell a geographic tale of the development of Africa and the continent’s finer points. These are available in a set of four that can be hung on a gallery wall or can be ordered separately. The warm brown of the background of the Vintage Africa Map and the distressed gold frames make them perfect when the spot on the wall can use a touch of warmth.

About the Paragon Art for J. Banks Collection: In keeping with our philosophy of “resort as home and home as resort,” we envision this collection as having broad appeal across all environments. The beauty of the sum of its parts is how we’ve mixed contemporary and traditional to bring an eclectic array of art to the marketplace. Contrast is also an important aspect of this collection: white lacquered frames pair with dark wood; pictures in a large scale fit beautifully with smaller pieces; and abstracts complement landscapes through tonal consistency.

With this collection of art for Paragon, it’s easy to see how we have drawn from motifs that have inspired us on our journeys as we have traveled and worked around the world. We often bring the outdoors in through a blend of contemporary and traditional symbols reflective of elements found in nature. Whether it’s water, wood or palms, or wildlife or sea creatures, we have mined the surroundings we see and treated the inspiration we’ve found to color and texture to make each piece unique.

Joni Vanderslice, who created these compositions, is a professional interior designer and the owner of the internationally renowned design firm J. Banks Design. The collection embodies Vanderslice’s point of view ‘luxury without pretense,’ her design style incorporating coastal influences, a playful and sophisticated use of color, fun twists on classic motifs, large-scale focal art pieces and ethnic patterns.

Ombre Dots

The clever compositions in our Ombre Dots series are made of colorful circles that pulse along the surface of the giclée prints in four different colors. There’s a pert teal and lively navy blue in the East Coast pair, and a bright yellow and mossy green in the West Coast pair. The white shadowbox frames surrounding the Ombre Dots add greater depth to the prints, whether you hang all four gallery-style, one at a time or in the pair that reflects the coast you call home.

Mercury Glass

Inspired by a vintage book of sketches chronicling an early expedition to the West Indies, these black and white botanicals evoke a sense of bringing the past into the present. The application of the image placed on mercury glass gives each of these pieces great depth and old-world charm. If you are fond of the feel of mercury glass, this botanical inspired collection has that aged appeal you’ll love. There are four giclée images in this series—Bristle, Bloom, Berry and Biennial, each printed on distressed mirror to achieve the look of mercury glass.

Italian Marbled Paper Art

No one pattern is the same in this distinctive grouping in the Italian Marbled Paper Art seen here. An ancient technique pioneered in Italy replicates the natural patterns found in marble and then is transferred to thin sheets of paper. The flowing nature of these pieces mimics the sea. The groovy compositions made of colorful morphing patterns in our Splish Splash series come in a set of four so you can hang them gallery-style. The white shadowbox frames surrounding the Italian Marbled Paper Art add greater depth to the prints that bring a brilliant pop of color to a space.

Pops of Color

On a recent trip to Africa, Sarah Vanderslice sketched the flora and fauna of the Tanzania region as well as their beloved family pug. The result was a whimsical mix of black and white doodles with pops of color. The pops of color in our J. Banks Collection of art for Paragon are plentiful. Take the Pop Palm, a giclée print that depicts bright spikey palm fronds slicing into a sky-blue background. The brushed gold frame with its textural flair brings added warmth to this piece of decorative art with its pops of color.

Wood Grain Series

Taken from personal photography of the backyard beach, the natural patterns left from the surf create a complex and intricate abstract pattern with soft neutral color. Proving that micro-views of tree bark create interesting and contemporary patterns for art, the Wood grain series includes four distinctive pieces of art with varying personalities. Choose four to group on a gallery wall or pick a favorite or two. Each one is matted in white and framed in an espresso finish molding. These close-ups in the Wood grain Series reflect one of the hallmarks of the creator—a love for and understanding of nature and an aptitude for bringing the elemental indoors.

Contemporary Maps

It takes a city with presence to be apropos for our Contemporary Maps collection that includes Electric London, Electric Florence, Electric New Orleans and Electric Charleston. The waterways have been rendered in a festive blue, each snaking through the textural layout of streets to make these pieces feel like abstract art. The giclée prints in the Contemporary Maps series are framed in molding with a brushed-gold finish.

Tree of Life art

The intricate repeating patterns of Kanga and other African tribal cloths provide the inspiration for this tribal design. Where there is a point, there is always a Counterpoint, which describes this graphically interesting print that imitates a tree of life. The black, white and gray giclée compositions in the Tree of Life  series have black shadow-box frames for added depth.

Architecture

Taking photographs of stunning European architecture we found amongst our travels, the photos were then gray scaled to give the buildings depth and scale. Highlighting personable aspects of buildings, the Architecture series in the J. Banks Collection for Paragon Art proves the power buildings have to evoke emotion. Among the pieces in this collection are Pediment, Turret, Grand Façade and Capital, each one leading the gaze skyward to celebrate the great heights to which architecture can rise.

Color Block

Inspired by the sea, sky and land and the natural coastal colors of projects we have worked on all over the world. This linear collection captures these three elements in each piece and displays how they can be seen through different applications. The Color Block series of decorative art is made up of rectangular compositions of brilliant hand-painted color with gold leaf accents. Each will bring great life to the wall on which it is hung. Place them gallery style or singly—they will lose none of their power one by one. The Color Block series includes Gold Square, Line Up I and Line Up II, and Center Line I and Center Line II.
